From Gbagada to ASVO with Loads of Goals
Edema Peter needs no introduction. The Ondo State-born footballer who is currently plying his trade with ASVO FC of Benin republic on loan from Gbagada FC, Lagos has been in superlative form lately.
Before moving over to the Benin republic in a loan deal in 2021, Edema Peters had made a name for himself in Gbagada FC, where he scored a hat trick in the Creative Championship against Iganmu FC, Lagos. In a recent interview I had with him, he shared some of his amazing exploits in the Benin Premier League so far.
The Journey so far
“It has been nice. I am loving it so far. Firstly, when I got there. I started on a rough note. Language barrier. Foods, social lifestyle. I started the preseason with them (ASVO FC) with an injury. Still battling to learn the French language, but I’m improving fast”.
Blending with ASVO FC
“Technically speaking, ASVO don’t play a similar pattern with Gbagada FC. At Gbagada FC, we played the England style where they play through the wings. Crosses are put into box 18 for strikers to nod in.
At ASVO we make use more of the ball. We play from the back. When I got to ASVO, they discovered I am good in the air, and they modified their game pattern to allow me to fit in.
The Formation I met there was a 4-4-2 formation. ASVO pattern was changed to a 4-3-3 formation to suit my style and now I scored three goals via my head.
Goal streak in ASVO
I am happy here at ASVO FC. In the Benin Republic, everyone is shouting Edema Peters. When I was nominated for the player of the month for March, I was very happy. It was the inaugural award going out to players. Hoping to win the next one for April. Thankful to the coach and technical crew of ASVO. Currently on 8 goals (As at the time of the interview. Edema Peter has since scored a total of 10 goals).
The ASVO FC striker cannot stop scoring and the aim is to do greater things in the colors of ASVO as the season progresses. Watch out for Edema Peter, as he hungers for the greatest prize in his footballing career.
