Life is all about putting in the extra effort. Making the most of every opportunity that comes your way. I love the way German-based Ghanian international put it: “A dream doesn’t become reality through magic. It takes sweat, determination, and hard work”

For Edema Peter, he attributed his recent loan move to the Benin Republic Premier League Side- ASVO FC, to the hard work, determination, and effort of his coach at Gbagada FC, Lagos, Nigeria.

The Ondo State-born footballer, who has had a fairy-tale rise in his footballing career, recently shared with me his story during a recent live chat on Instagram.

“Last season, I knew if I could do well and score goals, I will secure a move. I also knew if the video of my goals goes out there, I will move”

The hunger and drive to excel pushed him beyond limits and he indeed shone brightly with Gbagada FC, as he emerged Gbagada FC top scorer. In all competitions, he was involved in Sixteen goals.

Edema scored fourteen goals and made two assists, scoring two hattricks in the process. The amazing fact about some of the goals he scored, is that 60% of those goals were scored aerially.

When asked about the secret of his aerial prowess, he opened this: “While growing up, I was nicknamed the “Head that burst the ball”, because I was always scoring via headers”.

Edema also shared how he always watched documentaries on Cristiano Ronaldo about scoring via headers. “I discovered even though I don’t have so much height, I do have jump power. I learned the principle of staying in the air while watching documentaries about Cristiano Ronaldo, and that helped improved my aerial prowess”

An excited Edema Peter, who is hoping to replicate his goal-scoring record with the Benin Republic club-side chipped in on how the loan breakthrough became a reality: “The work I put in last season created this opportunity for me in the Benin Republic. The video clips of the fourteen goals I scored were sent directly to the President of ASVO FC”

“Immediately he finished watching the video clips, he put a call through to Gbagada FC President, Akinyelu Olajide and contract negotiation was started”

The young striker who is currently hoping to thread the same path of foremost Nigerians like Razak Omotoyossi, Samson Akinyola, Mathieu Adeniyi, Wassiou Oladipupo, and Muri Ogunbiyi is currently on a Pre-season tour with ASVO FC.
